You Need This

Saw this today and thought it was hilarious (even tho I'm still a believer in WW):

"You're not still on MySpace why are you still doing Weight Watchers?"

I am not the blog where you'll get tons and tons of links, scientific facts, or medical advice. I'm just a grandma with some weight to lose and I'm sharing my journey. 

I've already confessed to being a weight watchers leader and have tried everything from my current meal replacement shakes to reading One Hundred Days of Real Food and South Beach Diet from cover to cover.  

I BELIEVE we're all lacking in the 'real' food category.

I KNOW we all eat way too much sugar.

But maybe, just maybe we're not eating enough protein.

This is what works amazing for me while I'm on the meal replacement shakes.  Whether I make my 600-700 calorie meal lunch or dinner I cover 1/2 my plate with greens and veggies, 1/4 of my plate with complex carbs and 1/4 with protein. (Always making sure to have some good fats along with my meal; olive oil, avocado, nuts, peanut or almond butter)

I always put a bit of protein with my snacking.

  • Peanut butter on my fruit or crackers.
  • A hard boiled egg and one serving of applesauce.
  • 1/2 cup of fruit with a dollop of greek yogurt 
  • Celery and almond butter
  • A couple of small roll-ups: Turkey, chicken, or roast beef rolled up in cheese

Protein also helps you lose fat instead of muscle mass. Not all weight loss is good.

It's a common fact too, that you can eat too much protein. But maybe, just maybe, it's better than eating too much sugar.

I learned most of what I know about protein and combining foods from the book Trim Healthy Mama, and from what has worked for me.  I highly recommend learning as much as you can, but we can also become overwhelmed with facts and learning.

Maybe, just maybe we have to start doing.
